Talk about a BAD TRIP! Stumbling threw the thick trees Jacob was running, and running. A hundred percent sure he was actually running from a pack of wolves and definitely not in Montana! His foot caught a branch sticking from the dirt and down he went hard. Conveniently straight out of the thick trees that ran along the side of the highway that ran from Falls end to Missoula.
Tumbling down the slope and slamming into a
fallen trunk he lay there for a moment his breath all but knocked out of him.
At this point he nearly looked like he'd spent the past three days crawling
around the undergrowth of the forest. Which he has, not long after the bad
explosion down in the Henbane. Both triggered, hurt and so out of it on the
Bliss he'd ended up in a very bad stupor and now twice he'd ended up merely
snapping necks of three people he'd come across who'd thought it was smart to
approach.
Finally though, he just couldn't move. The
howls were dying down and the hallucinations were going quiet around him save
for the sound of shouting. Damn it, was Connor still back there?! He couldn't
move suddenly, his whole body felt heavy and soon he'd completely lost track of
time fading off into a half conscious doze just from pure physical and mental
exhaustion.
Nathaniel had been aimlessly driving around
Montana, needing to get out of the hotel room and clear his head. His friends
had been even more insufferable than usual lately; Trent had been parrotting
some kind of ridiculous dogma he must have heard around here and Serena was
usually either fucking John or talking about when she would next get to fuck
John. So Nathaniel had needed to get away from all that. As he was making his
way down the main road, he saw someone familiar lying by the side of the road.
"Jacob?" he asked himself. He put
his signal on and pulled over, then got out and knelt by the man. Jacob was
either asleep or in a daze. Nathaniel did the first thing that came to mind and
checked his neck for a pulse.
By this point Jacob had almost completely
faded out for a moment, yet not enough he didn't feel the others touch. However
not being fully awake and after the past few days even if he'd been completely
sobered jumpy would have been an understatement. Not to mention as he suddenly
pulled back to consciousness he couldn't remember where he even was. Eyes
shooting open rather quickly it was only a matter of seconds before he'd
snatched Nathaniel by the wrist, and reached to feel for his knife. That,
probably lucky for Nathaniel wasn't there. Eyes wide now staring at Nathaniel
he sucked in a breath for a moment letting the others wrist go and looking
around for a moment looking a bit confused and disoriented his breath however
didn't calm. If anything it began to quicken as he took everything in fighting
to try to think clearly. What the hell!? Why was he on the side of the road!?
What the fuck had happened!? The explosion!? Fuck the Bliss! Even recognizing
Nathaniel finally, did little to calm him in that moment and he was soon gasping
as his chest began to constrict from the overwhelming rush of fear, panic and
confusion.
Nathaniel blinked at the sudden grab to his
wrist, but didn't utter a noise of protest. He understood why Jacob might not
want to be touched just now.
"Good. You're awake," he said,
baby blue eyes filled with concern-- which only deepened as Jacob noticeably
began to panic! Nathaniel gently rubbed his back. "Hey, stay with
me," he said. "Do you know where we are?"
Face scrunching up a bit as he fought to
breath Jacob merely looked down for a moment. Well, sort of? Fuck! His chest
was aching and he felt so disoriented he wasn't positive other than somewhere
in the woods judging by what he could see currently. Still he merely nodded
eyes squeezing shut for a moment. "Fuck.. " He hissed merely out of
desperation for it to stop. He hadn't actually had one of these in so long and
it probably didn't help his vision was still a bit wonky from the drugs. "I'm...."
He took at least six more rather fast breaths struggling to speak "Ok..
" He managed his hand moving to push at Nathaniel though really he merely
ended up fumbling against him before his fist latched onto the others shirt.
Nathaniel pulled Jacob against him and held
him close, rubbing his back. It was obvious Jacob was having some sort of
episode, and Nathaniel had no experience with this kind of thing. He wasn't
sure what to do, but he wanted to comfort his friend.
"Okay," he said. "Can you
take a slow, deep breath for me?"
He vaguely expected Jacob to push him away
and tell him to fuck off, mind his own business, insist he could take care of
himself, so he was surprised when the other instead fisted his hand into
Nathaniel's grey T-shirt.
Nathaniel cupped the hand that wasn't
rubbing Jacob's back over Jacob's hand, thumbing it. "It's okay. You're
going to be okay. I'm here," he said quietly, nosing into Jacob's hair
lightly, an instinctive gesture of affection.
He wanted to, god did he want to but he
wasn't exactly in a normal mindset by any means. Eyes closing for a moment he
continued to fight to steady his breathing. At this point shivering both from
the rush of panic and chills he soon pushed against Nathaniel damn near
slumping against him at this point. A few moments past like this, his breath
going from heavy gasps to deep forced ones and his other hand eventually going
to his chest both out of pain and desperation. God damn it. Things were slowly
coming back and he had to fight not to think about it in that exact moment.
Especially as his heart rate finally began to drift back to normal his breaths
became a bit more even. Eyes drifting to open to stare of at the tree line for
a moment he squinted a bit taking another few slowly deeper breaths.
"Wher... How .. The fuck are we? What are you doing here?" He finally
spoke finally starting to wonder maybe more so how Nathaniel had came across
him. Meant he had to have stumbled onto a main road or something right? He
vagally remembered maybe hearing cars but it was all trippy fog of uncertainty
to what was actually real and what wasn't. He also remembered people he knew
couldn't have been there so.... Damn the fucking Bliss!
Nathaniel held Jacob as he fought to steady
his breathing, continuing to stroke his back as he felt the man shivering
against him. In another context, those shivers were delightful. In this... not
so much.
When Jacob spoke, Nathaniel was relieved.
He let out a breath he hadn't realized he had been holding. "We're just a
few miles outside town," Nathaniel answered. "My car's just there if
you want me to take you somewhere. Somewhere other than my room, though. The
others are being ...annoying."
