Sebastian paced their penthouse furiously, while Lucifer lounged in an open black-trimmed red silk robe on the bed.
"Unbelievable," Sebastian ranted.
"If there was any doubt in my mind why Nathaniel can't stand that bitch,
it's gone now. She— I can't— How— She fucking upstaged you. YOU, Luci! And of
course Xander had to cite some fucking loophole that— I mean— she ALWAYS does
shit like this! Always! I wish she'd never come back! Faustus could have left
her ass in Prague and we all would have been fine!"
"Really? Though you and Faustus don't
get along?"
"Me and Faus— we— we banter! I don't
care what he says to me!" Sebastian gave a short laugh, almost like a
bark. "If he ever actually upset me, I'd kick him in the face or
something."
"Hmm, yes.... And his other
proclivities?" Lucifer probed.
"What, the Pornhub and FetLife
thing?" Sebastian stopped pacing and shook his head. "Doesn't bother
me. He's probably just curious about what you see in me and fell down the
rabbit hole. I'm surprised it bothers Trent and Xander that much, though."
"They're both very protective of
you," Lucifer observed.
"You aren't."
"I am when it matters."
Sebastian nodded and went to sit on the
bed, resting his head on his husband's bare chest. "You get me," he
sighed. "I can't believe Trent actually broke someone's personal property
over a silly thing like that. It's a good thing Faustus doesn't know the legal
system for shit. Still... those two were acting like lions over a piece of
meat."
Lucifer ran his fingers through Sebastian's
soft curls. "Doesn't it flatter you, even a little?"
Sebastian scoffed. "No. Any enjoyment
I would have gotten over it was snuffed out the second Xander ignored you. The
fact that he bowed to her— no matter what justification he has for it,
because we all know excuses are like assholes— just exacerbates my
annoyance."
"Evidently."
Sebastian sat up just long enough to slide
Lucifer's robe off, then kissed his way down his husband's body, beginning to
relax as he went. "Maybe we'll stay in tomorrow," he murmured.
"Take a day for ourselves. We could invite Nathaniel and Trent."
Lucifer laughed. "And leave Blackwood
and Maze to brave the sea of raging estrogen alone? I thought you didn't hate
them," he teased.
Sebastian nuzzled Lucifer's stomach.
"It's not all estrogen. George—"
"Would side with the girls. You know
that."
Sebastian made a little moue. "I know
Xander agreed not to overreact again, but.... I don't know, I'm tempted to just
invite Blackwood to bed with us, out of spite, at this point."
It was Lucifer's turn to scoff. "He'd
know you were joking," he said. "He does rather poorly with emotional
intelligence, but the man isn't completely stupid. Besides, we've already
extended that invitation. He declined because of Freya," Lucifer reminded
him.
Sebastian shrugged. "That was
then," he said. "Besides, he gets very agitated whenever someone
suggests he just fuck you and get it over with. He's made it clear he likes you
for more than your body."
"This body, anyway," Lucifer
said, holding Sebastian's head and grinding lightly against his cheek to make
his point.
Sebastian smiled at him, then slid down
Lucifer's underpants and gave his cock a languorous kiss. "If he was just
into you for your devil form, then he still wouldn't be so offended," he
murmured after.
Lucifer closed his eyes briefly at
Sebastian's attentions. "My power," he said, "my Dominion over
the underworld."
Sebastian pulled back and frowned.
"Which has now been called into question," he said, then stood and
began pacing back and forth again.
"So much for that," Lucifer
muttered to himself.
"Avoiding them won't help,"
Sebastian thought aloud. "Asking Blackwood to sleep with us would just
cause unnecessary drama and whining from someone who just lost her right to
whine about anything at all after tonight, but you know the others will whine
on her behalf, which would piss Nate and me off, which would upset Trent, which
would cause yet more unnecessary drama."
Lucifer shook his head. "Sebastian, my
love, you do such an excellent job of brushing off and ignoring Faustus when he
says and does annoying things."
Sebastian stopped dead and stared at
Lucifer like he was a stranger. "Faustus hasn't insulted you in front of
everyone, at least, not since I've been in the group."
"Well— really, Sebastian, what was she
going to do, let Xander murder her husband? Besides, he's the one who decided
to ignore me."
Sebastian frowned. "Why didn't you
punish him?" he asked.
"You gave him the cold shoulder, and
came to bed with me tonight to drive home your point. I'd say you're punishing
him well enough on your own."
Sebastian's lips parted as he took this in.
"You've spent every night with either
him or Trent since they embraced you," Lucifer pointed out. "Choosing
to go with me after someone challenges my power is transparent, and you know
it. You spend so much of your time with other men, and I know we decided to
have an open marriage, which is really for the best for both of us. Yet much as
you may disbelieve me, I miss holding you at night. Having you in my arms, in
my bed. Sleeping alone as a married man bothers me far more than whatever
temporary power some silly girl wields over a lesser demon. The first night
we've spent together in weeks is due to your need to punish your vampire."
Sebastian sighed and crawled back into bed
with Lucifer, wrapping his arms around him. "You're right," he said.
"I've been neglecting you. I shouldn't have, I know how it feels. I'm
sorry."
Lucifer held him close and resumed stroking
his hair. "Yes, well... I'd like you at least two nights out of the week
from now on. I'd say three, but between Trent, Nathaniel, Xander if you ever
forgive him, and your clients—"
"Actually...."
"Hmm?"
"Maybe I'll take some time off. Not
accept any clients for a little while. They're starting to bore me, and
besides, the sweaty guy with the deep pockets keeps trying to engage me. No,
thank you." Sebastian made a face. "Besides... Trent admitted he
loves me. Both Nathaniel and Rebecca are okay with sleeping with me, so there's
no conflict if I want to spend a night with Trent and one or both of them. And
since Xander seems to have a habit of overreacting to minor things like
name-calling and that one guy ignoring my safeword—"
"I'd hardly call that a minor thing—"
"Maze had it under control. I didn't
get hurt too badly, and he's been banned from Lux."
"Sebastian, the fact that YOU, who
have a masochistic streak on par with Nathaniel's, had to use a safeword at
all, which was subsequently ignored, is not a minor thing. No, look at
me." Lucifer cupped Sebastian's cheek. "Trent beat him bloody with a
tire iron and dumped him outside the hospital with a honk. Xander killed him
and sent him to Hell, where he's being tortured by Maze. All of that is for an
excellent reason. We increased your price and your security, but you shouldn't
think Xander's protectiveness of you is overbearing, not when it comes to
someone physically assaulting you."
Sebastian shook his head. "No, it's
not that. He said if that one guy did it, others would follow. That annoyed me.
Like he was undermining how well you take care of me. And now this incident
tonight. He claims he can't hurt me without hurting himself, but he doesn't see
that disrespecting you hurts me. And by the way, so does your assumption that
I'm only here with you to make a point. I know it's been a while since I've
warmed your bed—"
"I wish you wouldn't phrase it like
that, you know bloody well you mean more to me than just a willing body."
"Okay, then I know it's been a while
since I've spent time with you alone. I'm not with you to punish him, I'm here
because here is where I wanted to be tonight. And I'm not taking time off
just because of Xander's jumpiness, although that is a factor. I'm spread
thin these days, and I know you've been feeling left out because of it. So I
would have wanted to reconnect regardless of what happened tonight."
Sebastian sighed. "Honestly, you know, if you wanted to see someone else,
I wouldn't mind. Just, please not Rebecca or Freya." He made a face.
"Rebecca's marrying my Duckie," he muttered.
"Yes, and I married Trent's Bashie.
But I understand, you don't want to feel as if she's taking yet another man's
attention away from you."
Sebastian nodded. "I love Trent, and I
love you. I thought I loved Xander.... I'm just so disappointed in him right
now. Why would he think it was okay to ignore my husband under the guise of
defending my honor? Whether my honor even needs defending— if it were up to
anyone besides me, it would be up to you. Because I married you. So—
ugh!"
Lucifer smiled and kissed Sebastian,
pulling Sebastian flush against him. Sebastian moaned lightly, relaxing again
despite himself.
"It's good to hear you say it,"
Lucifer said. "We may have married for convenience, but I like being more
than just convenient to you."
"Of course y— what, you think I would
have let you go through with the wedding, either wedding, if I didn't have
feelings for you?" Sebastian looked wounded. "What kind of monster do
you take me for? I know everyone else was surprised, but you, too?"
Lucifer blinked. "Well, I... I knew
you saw me as someone who took care of and protected you, but I hardly thought
you had fallen in love with me."
Sebastian cradled his face in one hand.
"That's what I'm attracted to!" he said. "I didn't think you
loved me, either, until someone pointed it out. Wow. Okay, I guess Trent and
Nathaniel have rubbed off on me, like a lot."
"Yes, well, you might consider cutting
Xander some slack. He wants to protect and take care of you, too. I doubt if
he's ever had a Bonded before you. It'll take some time for him to gain control
over those instincts, just like it took Trent and Nathaniel time to adjust to
their incubus abilities."
Now Sebastian blinked. "Trent and
Nathaniel are incubi? Then that means...."
"Yes, they fall under my Dominion now.
Trent has more mastery of his abilities than Nathaniel does, and he's a good
deal more liberal with them as well." A slow smile spread across Lucifer's
handsome face. Sebastian hooked one leg over his husband's hip, echoing the
smile.
"I have an idea," he said, "and I'm guessing you just had the same one."
