November 7, 2021 | Speaking of Phones [Sebastian x Trent] [SOLO]

Trent laughed lightly as he sat with his friends. "So many ironic memes about people being addicted to their phones," he observed. "But I think Bashie's got them all beat."

Sebastian frowned slightly. "What do you mean?" he asked. "If anything, Luci's the one on his phone the most. Constantly checking his texts, getting distracted by game alerts—"

"For your otome games, mind," Lucifer piped up. "He ran out of space on his phone so he uses mine for some of his games," he explained.

Trent chuckled. "See?" he asked gleefully. "Back in college, on the nights he didn't spend in my bed because of nightmares—"

"Pretty sure he wasn't having nightmares," Nathaniel muttered. "Cuddled up with his back to you, shivering and moaning your name?"

"Anyway," Trent continued, "when he was sleeping in his own bed, his phone was going off constantly, to the point where I sometimes dreamt there was a hive of bees in our room."

Sebastian turned five shades of red while their friends snickered.

"Oh, honey," said Maze pityingly. "You poor, pretty bimbo of a man."

"Thank you," said Trent cheerfully, unruffled as usual. "Bashie, what's wrong?" he asked innocently. "You look so overheated. Do you want Xander to help cool you off?"

The snickers in the room increased.

"I don't think that'll exactly cool him," said Nathaniel, smirking. "If memory serves, he's into ice play as much as I am. And he's definitely into Xander touching him."

"He'd say the strangest things in his sleep, too," Trent mused, biting his lip to try to hide a smirk of his own, but unfortunately, Sebastian knew him too well.

"You—"

Trent couldn't help laughing. "Okay, yes," he admitted. "I knew exactly what you were doing. I could hear you. 'Oh Trent, grind me harder, fuck yes, oh yes, fuck me, Trent, just like that!'"

Nathaniel nearly fell off the couch laughing. "You remember that from a decade ago?" he asked.

Trent shrugged. "I didn't really think anything of it at the time. There were at least two other Trents at school around the same time we were— oh, and when he was a full-on, black-nail-polish Goth, he was hugely into Nine Inch Nails, so Trent Reznor was also a possibility."

"You really didn't think it was you he was getting off to?" Maze asked skeptically.

"… I kind of wanted it to be," Trent admitted. "It would have been flattering, which is why I never asked him about it. I didn't want him to stop."

Sebastian tsked and threw a small pillow at Trent. "You bastard! You should have just crawled into bed with me and helped me out!"

"Sounds like you crawled into bed with him and helped yourself out plenty," Maze teased him.

Sebastian blushed again. "Since we're airing all this out, Duckie, were you ever awake when I… you know…."

Helena's jaw dropped. "Tell me you didn't," she said. "Sebastian, that is fucked up, even for you."

Sebastian looked sheepish. "No farther than third," he said. "I didn't take his virginity, if that's what you're asking. I wanted to, but I didn't."

Trent threw the pillow back at Sebastian. "Is that why I kept having dreams about someone blowing me?" he demanded. "Because you ACTUALLY were?!"

"Hey— in my defense, I assumed you were awake at least half of those times!"

"Wait, whose name was he moaning when you did that?" Nathaniel wanted to know.

Sebastian frowned at him, but he did answer the question. "… Sometimes hers, in which case I stopped immediately."

Helena applauded sarcastically.

"And sometimes mine, which was why I thought he was awake, obviously." Sebastian rolled his eyes.

"That explains…. So, you know how oxytocin bonding works when you cuddle or fuck someone constantly?"

"Yes, Nathaniel, we've all met you," Sebastian shot back.

Nathaniel made a face at him. "Well, if he was dreaming about Rebecca half the time, he would have woken up feeling closer to her, which explains why he felt comfortable doing weird shit like breaking into her home—"

"Technically I didn't break anything, she doesn't lock her back patio or her bedroom windows—"

"—and acted like he knew her so well when, from her perspective, they had basically just met on Facebook."

"That and the cyber stalking and surveillance," Maze pointed out. "I'm shocked you guys actually planted bugs instead of just hacking the cameras that were already around town."

"Bold of you to assume we didn't do both," Trent said.

Sebastian curled up into himself a little, hugging his knees to his chest and scooting close to Lucifer, his chin trembling. "Great," he said. "So while I was trying to be closer and more intimate with him, I was actually driving him to feeling closer to her. That's fantastic." He sniffled; the realization obviously caused him unexpected pain.

All traces of mirth vanished from Trent's face immediately as he moved to sit next to his friend and pulled him into his arms. "Bashie, there were so many times I wanted to be intimate with you," he said, "but I thought it would be inappropriate and you'd freak out and stop being friends with me. My family obviously wanted me to be with a girl, and you were so helpful, with the very first girl I ever noticed, that I thought that's what you wanted, too!"

"Are you ki— I fucking HATED that girl! Sorry, no offense," he tossed out to Rebecca, before turning back to Trent. "I only helped you because I thought if I didn't, I wouldn't get to stay in your life!"

"I feel like they've had this argument before," Nathaniel whispered to Maze.

Maze scoffed at him. "What, are we buddies now?" she asked.

Trent cupped Sebastian's delicate cheeks gently in his strong hands. "We sucked at communicating," he said, then leaned forward and kissed Sebastian tenderly. "But everything is fine now. We're together, and you have Xander and Lucifer to keep you company when I'm with Rebecca, and you and she seem to get along in bed, at least."

Sebastian blushed furiously once more. "For your sake, yes," he said. "Look, I know I've fooled around with her, and Cat—"

"Don't remind me—"

"—and Helena and even Maze, but I don't really like girls that much. I never take female clients at Lux, for one thing."

"Yeah, you know, I was shocked when you offered to go down on everyone that night, including us girls," Helena said. "I always thought you were gay, too. That's why I never tried to ask you out in school."

Sebastian looked at her quizzically. "You asked me out," he reminded her. "I distinctly remember going on a date with you."

Helena snorted. "That was a networking convention. It wasn't a date."

"There was food, it counts."

"Speaking of preferences," Nathaniel piped up, "we all know Xander prefers girls, right?"

General murmurs of agreement.

"I can understand why he went for Sebastian," Nathaniel continued, "but a masculine guy like Trent? No offense, Bash."

Sebastian shook his head. "None taken. I'm proud of being effeminate. It means I pass better in drag."

"Also, you're his Singer."

Sebastian smiled fondly over at Xander. "Yes," he said happily. "That, too. Probably that, most of all."

"So again," Nathaniel pressed, "why Trent?"

Trent shrugged. "Probably because I'm the person Sebastian has loved the longest, and Xan wanted to see what that was all about," he guessed.

"He charms everyone," said a familiar voice from Lucifer's phone, which Lucifer had managed to prop up on the coffee table without anyone really noticing. "Don't give me that look, Mazikeen, she's taking a nap."

Maze shrugged. "It's your funeral. I mean, honeymoon," she snarked.

Blackwood ignored her. "Sebastian loves him, Nathaniel, Rebecca eventually came round, even George developed a wee crush on him. It's no surprise that Xander became curious as well."

"Yeah so um, how long have you been listening in on this?" Helena wanted to know.

"Since Sebastian and Lucifer were arguing over who uses their phone more," Blackwood said casually, examining his pointed nails. "I happened to call at just the right moment."

"Didn't you used to have a thing for Trent, too?" Nathaniel asked lightly.

The call cut out.

"Okay, cool," said Trent, a little awkwardly. "Lucifer, why do you keep taking his calls? He's supposed to be on his honeymoon. With his wife. The one we're all glad is gone for a week and definitely don't want coming home early."

Lucifer raised his eyebrows. "And ignore a friend?" he asked. "Tell me, 'Duckie', how does Sebastian react to you ignoring his texts and calls?"

Sebastian blushed; Lucifer knew very well that Sebastian suffered from separation anxiety when it came to Trent. But Trent's fist clenched at his side as he stood and squared up to Lucifer.

"If you're suggesting that Blackwood reacts the same way to you declining his calls when he's supposed to be with his wife, then you need to seriously evaluate your friendship," he said coldly. "I can't fathom blowing up Sebastian's phone when I'm with Rebecca unless there's an emergency."

"Or you beat someone unconscious," Lucifer countered, his eyes blazing a warning orange. "Or you want to know how far to take a 'friendly' shower."

"If an ambulance is being called, that qualifies as an emergency," Trent replied. "As for the shower, she was in another room talking to someone else when I called him to ask about that."

"And I'm sure Freya was in another room, asleep, when Faustus called me." There was a note of finality in Lucifer's voice.

Trent just folded his arms and looked at him. "Tell yourself what you want, but he's crossing a line, and I think you know that. You shouldn't encourage it."

"Also, point of interest," Sebastian added, "comparing my friendship with Duckie to your friendship with Faustus may not be the message you want to send, considering."

Lucifer looked stunned. "Right," he said. "Listen, I've got some errands to run. I'll be back tonight. Don't wait up for me." And he turned and swept out.
